Staying Safe and Sound at Cirrus: Understanding and Responding to Cannabis-Induced Fainting

At Cirrus, we pride ourselves on offering a unique and enjoyable cannabis consumption experience. While the vast majority of our guests have a wonderful time, we want to address a rare phenomenon some may experience: fainting after consuming cannabis. While uncommon – we've observed this in approximately 3 out of every 3000 guests – it's something we take very seriously.

This occurrence isn't exclusive to Cirrus. It's a known, though infrequent, side effect that can happen for various physiological reasons when consuming cannabis. For those interested in learning more about the science behind it, NuggMD offers an informative article on the subject.

Our primary concern is always the safety and well-being of our guests. We believe in being proactive and transparent. That's why we've developed and implemented a specific protocol called "Code Green" to ensure our staff is fully prepared to handle such situations swiftly and effectively.

What is "Code Green"?

"Code Green" is our internal procedure designed to manage instances where a guest feels faint or loses consciousness. Our staff is trained to respond calmly and follow these steps to ensure guest safety:

  1. Immediate Care & Safety: The first priority is to prevent any falls or injuries. Our staff will remain calm and composed while ensuring the guest is in a safe position.

  2. Manager Alert: A manager is immediately notified to oversee the situation. The alert "CODE GREEN TABLE 50" (or the relevant table number) is used.

  3. Vitals Check: Staff will promptly check if the guest is breathing by looking for chest movement, listening for breath sounds, and feeling for airflow from the nose or mouth.

  4. Response Based on Vitals:

    • If Breathing: The guest will be monitored closely, as they are likely to regain consciousness shortly.

    • If Not Breathing: Emergency services (911) will be called immediately, and CPR will be initiated and continued until EMS arrives. As a precaution, all cannabis consumption in the lounge will be paused.

  5. Post-Fainting Care & Follow-Up:

    • Once the guest is awake, our team will reassure them and help them stay comfortable, offering water or Sprite.

    • Their condition will be monitored. If it doesn't improve within 5 minutes, EMS will be called.

    • We respect our guests' autonomy; they can choose to stay or leave as they wish.

    • Before a guest leaves, we will gather their information for our records.

    • A "Code Green" report is filled out for internal review and documentation.

Our Commitment to You

We want every visit to Cirrus to be a positive one. By bringing awareness to this potential side effect and demonstrating our preparedness through the "Code Green" protocol, we hope to reassure you that your safety is paramount. Our team is trained and ready to assist, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all our guests.

We encourage everyone to consume responsibly, be aware of their limits, and never hesitate to alert a staff member if they or someone in their party begins to feel unwell. Your well-being is our top priority.
